Must chill out, must chill out
Feb. 22nd, 2006 07:31 pmLast weekend I volunteered to do phlebotomy for the dog blood drive. It was fun and I got some practice drawing blood. It also gave me the chance to find out about donating at the school and I learned the somewhat more complicated procedure needed for cats. Ozy fit the criteria for a donor and after some discussion
laurion and I decided to give it a go (its a good cause and I get some money on my account at the hospital for every successful donation). Today Ozy went in for preliminary testing. This included some blood work (cbc, chem, HW, combo test and hemobartonella) and an echocardiagram (all at no cost to me). I fretted all day that something would be off with the echo. Every said he's two years old, chill out. Well I just picked him up and though he cried piteously the whole way home, he's now home being himself. He's approved to donate (as long as blood comes back good) but the echo was not a hundred percent normal. The cardio tech heard a grade II/VI murmur. She said that though Ozy was good for the procedure, his tissue is difficult to ultrasound and she couldn't find the source of the murmur. she said not to worry and come back for a repeat echo in 6 months. I'm trying to relax about this finding. It really shouldn't be a big deal, but the owner "OMG my kitty has a problem!" part of me is overiding the sensible bit and I have a huge knot of worry in my tummy. Hopefully in a few days I'll relax and chill out but for right now I'm gonna cuddle my kitty and tell him to not stress his poor little heart any.
