Health dilema

So at my last GYN visit I asked to switch pills because I was spotting a bit. They put me on a higher steady dose pill (I had been on a graduated pill). About 6 weeks later I began to experience intense lower abdomenal pain. I thought it might be a UTI (I've never had one but have heard they hurt a lot) at first, but the pain was a bit low and to the left. My family has a history of ovarian cysts on both sides, so I began to suspect the worst. An ultrasound confirmed that I had a large benign fluid filled cyst on the left side. After a week the pain subsuded (note: no pain killers were given to me at this time and I was told to just wait it out and use ibuprophen, despite my repeatedly saying that OTCs were not helping).

Skip ahead almost exactly four weeks, pain returns with a vengence. I see my doctor again. This time I'm refered to a real gynocologist (I usually just see my family doctor) and given codein. I'm also given a copy of the ultrasound report to give to the gynocologist. The cyst is making my left ovary about 6x7x7 cm (the normal one is 2x3x3 cm), which explains a lot of the pain. About two weeks later I got in with the GYN. She said the cyst was still there and would take several months to involute. She gave me a higher dose pill to supress the ovary but the cyclical pain would still occur most likely. I'm scheduled for a follow up ultrasound in the beginning of October. I didn't finish the codein prescription, so I have a few, but did not receive a new one. I was told if the pain became unbearable they'd remove the cyst laproscopically.

Four weeks past and no pain, it just held off a week though. It came back a day or two ago and I finished half of the remaining codein at this point (5 pills). I'm saving some for the next few days, but I'm still going to have to make it through next month, not to mention that I'm in agony when the drugs wear off and in bearable discomfort when they're in my system (plus they make my nose really REALLY itchy).

I'm afraid to ask for another prescription because the GYN might insist on the surgery. I'm really afraid of having my ovaries operated on (My great-grandother died from post-op pneumonia after her ovary was removed for cysts, it's irrational but I'm still scared) and I'm not sure when I could actually go and do it, what with schooland all, but I'm not sure I can survive next month. Also the pain makes me really intolerable to live with and I think [livejournal.com profile] laurion might kill me if I and he have to do another week of pain completely drug free (the first time wasn't as bad and I was at GNE for some of it).

So in summary: OWWWWWWWWW!!!!! I hurt.:(
