My kitties

This is going to be long and sad so skip it if you want. So my family has had Mischief since right before I turned 3 (making her 17 as of this May 1st). She is a wonderful, friendly Calico. She amuses small children while staying out of their reach, cries at the vet but hardly ever scratches and has lots of wonderful kitty personality. This summer she had to have a dental abcess operated on and some teeth removed. they found she had a fully compensated for grade 3/4 heart murmur and early kidney disease but the vet was not too worried as long as we switched her diet etc, that she still had a reasonable chance of living for awhile yet. The last time I was home I noticed her face was swollen, I was worried there might be a problem with her teeth again. My mom took her to the vet and they said something was wrong with her sinus, perhaps an infection. They took x-rays and did a biopsy and sent her home 9with an E collar that made my brother's cat think she had no body and freak out whenever he saw her). So yesterday my mom IMs me, the biopsy is back...Mischief has a fast growing inoperable tumor in her sinus and the back of her palate, she has a few weeks before she dies. Then my mom also tells me that our other cat, Sweetie (another calico, not as sweet and about 10 years old now) had some sort of fit the other day. My brother's ex-girlfriend (she and my brother are temporarily at my parents' house) walked in and the cat was crying and lost muscle and bladder control. So K called my brother who called my mom who called k to tell her to call the vet. The tech who talked to K told her to give Sweetie karo syrup (sweetie's a diabetic) K did and sweetie got up and was fine. K and the tech think the seizure was due to insulin, but her last shot had been 9 hours previously, my mom and our vet think she may have had a stroke but they lowered her insulin dose and the cat seems ok now. I'm still upset and I'm going home to visit the kitties this weekend and when Mischief does pass on be prepared for a very depressed me for awhile. And thus ends my ramble, i'm gonna read and cry now.

Oh, dear, I'm so sorry.... if there's anything I can do, please let me know.

It does sound like Sweetie had a problem with low blood sugar - strokes are very rare in cats, and the fact that she got better with karo syrup is a good sign. Even if it was several hours from her last shot, that's still possible. So she should be fine, once she's regulated. As for Mischief, it sounds like you've done everything you can, and she's had a long and wonderful life. Please, if I can help in any way, tell me?

Oh, honey, that sucks.
Don't suffer alone, there's lots of us for you to lean on. When the time comes, let me know.
