Dec. 30th, 2005 09:33 pmI had a great Christmas... and then I had some more. Friday of last week
laurion and I had our gift exchange and nice dinner. He got me The New Dungeon, which is an updated version of a game from my childhood that I love very much, once I got over the shock of seeing my favorite game with some changes I was very pleased. Both my siblings want it now, but unfortuntely its extremely hard to come by. He also got me a tape adaptor so I canuse the iPod in the car. I got him an Apple store gift certificate (towards his new laptop) and the first copy (out of five) of the A Capella arranging book he requested (it got silly, especially since 3 of the copies were opened at the same place, unfortunately I wasn't there to witness). Needless to say it will be returned and eventually something else will be picked out.
Christmas Eve we went over to my parents and had some nice conversation and Chinese food (traditional for my family). My parents and
laurion exchanged gifts and thanks to them we now have a nice new kitchen scale. He then went back home to feed Ozy and pack. I joined my parents for the early service at church, there were 7 children whom I wished to paddle by the end of the service and probably about 5 sets of parents ( note if your child begins to make a disturbance it's YOUR job to remove them, even if you miss the service. Also just because coffee and cookies are laid out does not mean you can let your children partake while the service is still happening). Service ran a bit long so i had to bolt almost immediately to meet < lj user="laurion"> at his aunt's party. Party was lovely and we got some nice (and badly needed) rubbermaid in the Yankee Swap. I then went home and he proceeded on to his grandfather's house. At home I stayed up until 2 am working on my parents' present and lost the data for one side of one of my dad's records.
Christmas morning I finished up what I could of my parents' gift and headed over to their place. My brother was there already so the four of us quietly opened our gifts and stockings. I know have a stethoscope and a bathroom scale. My sister and her S.O. came a bit later and gave me a copy of James Beard's American Cookery. My aunt then showed up with her S.O. and my little cousins, I got an amazon gift certificate, a dragon figure and some nice creme brulee dishes. My grandfather finally showed up and we all managed to have an unusually lovely dinner with no serious rows. My dad made a fabulous dessert (Charleston Truffle Cake, which is basically a semi-sweet chocolate mousse, but with no air surrounded by a crust made of butter melted with brownsugar and pecans) and then everyone departed. I stayed and watched Strictly Ballroom with my parents, rerecorded the music I needed and went home.
Monday I finished the CD for my dad and got packed up. My parents came to get me and dropped me at Alewife. I got to South station at 12:50 plenty of time for lunch before catching my 1:20 train out to
laurion. Except that it was a holiday schedule (which wasn't mentioned on the website) and so there had been a 12:40 and would not be another train out to the end of that line for 3 hours. I called
laurion and we agreed for me to take the next train and we'd meet as far out as it would go. That train was leaving 3 minutes after the end of my call but I managed to catch it. I got out fine and had a lovely time with
laurion and his various family and pets. I also got many lovely presents, mostly CDs and DVDs I wanted, as well as a blue magic scarf and some other wonderful things. Then we left for his parents place.
Tuesday I did nothing but crochet. I know have a bookmark and some lovely trim that I don't know what to do with (it was a huh, I wonder if I can make that project). In the evening
laurion's brother and brother's S.O. came over and we did gifts one last time. I had asked for a set of blue ramikins which
laurion's mom ordered and the box said blue but inside they were red so those will hopefully come back correctly and then I'll have ramikins. I also got a fantastic stocking, which included a pair of lovely blue studs, a purple velvet scarf and a really nice measuring cup.
Wednesday we hung out and played quite a bit of pinochle and then we finally headed home. I had enough of both families but not too much of either and best of all I got much more holiday with my sweetie than we ever have before. now we're relaxing and cleaning up for his party tomorrow, which I may attend briefly before going off for fun with friends. I'm calm and happy and grateful for my blessings. I hope all who are reading this are equally blessed and content(but hopefully less maudlin).
