[SCA] Fabric advice sought
Apr. 2nd, 2006 09:52 pmI'm finally making my garb wardrobe bigger and more period. I'm actually going to have dresses that my persona would wear. (I'm a 15th century Irish woman and thus I wear 15th century Italien clothes). I'm about to order some fabric and I need help. I know that for my chemises I should get hankerchief weight off-white linen. I then thought I might like a linen dress too 9I assume that'd be period) but I'm at a loss as to what weight of linen it should be and whatolors are ok.
I decided I might like a silk chemise as well, what type of silk is appropriate? I'm also finally using up some old brocade (or rather
bess is making me some dresses from it) and it needs some help. I've got enough of one brocade for a bodice and I was toying with the idea of a silk skirt for it. Anyone know if that's period (or wear to find such info)? Anyone know what type of silk should be used?
I'm thinking of doing a velvet bodice for the brocade that I have enough of for a skirt. I know not to get stretch vevelt, but is cotton velvet ok?
Suggestions for wear to get said fabric (either local or online) are also welcome. Thanks.
