Bunny
So as I mentioned recently my poor old bunny is ill. The last time he went to Angell Memorial the prognosis was not good. the infection in his dewlap had moved into his shoulder. Drastic jaw surgery could maybe help, but he'd need a full heart work-up before going under the knife again. My mom talked with me and we decided that he's 7 and has had a good life, we'll keep him on antibiotics and basically hospice care until he stops seeming to be happy and then we'll put him to sleep, she told me I should expect the time to come sometime this summer. I was very sad but so caught up with finals that i pushed it out of my mind. Well now I can push it away even further, after visiting with our vet yesterday she says Singeli (my rabbit) seems in great health all considered, he may have another year in him! He's gaining weight again and has been taken off the twice daily liquid force feedings he hates so much. We still have to give him meds and apply hot compresses to the infection sites twice a day but that's it. If he gets a bad infection we bring him in for the vet to drain. Bunny's got spunk still, chews everything in sight and tries to bite my parents when they do his medical routine. I'm so glad that I don't have to worry about him too much right now, I don't think I could take another death this year.

I was actually thinking about your bunny earlier this week - one of the other vets I work with got an email on an exotic medicine mailing list about a new treatment plan for bunny abscesses when surgery isn't an option, that seems to work impressively well. I'm glad your fellow is doing fine, but if things flare up in the future, it might be an option for him - I can get a copy for you to show your vet, if you like....
