After writing it I realized this post was rather long and that I'd better hide it behind a cut so if you want to know about my Thanksgiving with
laurion and his family (my first without my own family) and the rest of my break read on, if not skip and no offense will be taken :)
I'm feeling relaxed and well rested for the first time in ages. Tuesday evening I saw "Master and Commander" with
laurion and then he took me to Fire and Ice, I'd never been before and it was great. Wednesday I went shopping with my mom just to shop. I haven't done that in a loing time and never with my mom, the woman hates to shop. Somehow the stars aligned right so she had the inclination, time and money. I love my mommy (yes I'm 20 and still call her mommy, and if I'm sick mama, i know it's baby-ish and I don't care) and it was absolutly wonderful to spend a day with just her, though I was completely dead tired by the end. After shopping I went home and slept for several hours. My mom made homemade fried chicken and corn fritters (yum) and I had dinner with just her and my dad. I played with my kitties a bit, Sweetie's blood sugar seemed low to our vet and so she's off the insulin and we're going to try and just diet control the diabetes and Mischief's still just hanging on and seems to be very much herself still. After dinner I went back to
laurion and we went to sleep. Thursday morning
laurion and I got in the car and took the 2 hour drive south to his parents' place. His grandfathyer was already there when we got in and his brother and brother's girlfriend showed up an hour or so later. Spent most of the day listening to music and either helping with dinner, crocheting (making scarves for all my roomates) or napping. We had a wonderful dinner and after I helped clean up. We ended up having pie around 10pm and then going and crashing at
laurion 's brother's new place. Friday morning we went back to
laurion 's parents for breakfast and we played guillotine and then we headed off in the afternoon for Newport, RI.
We got to our hotel around three and I read while
laurion slept. We went out for dinner and then came back and read more and watched T.V. and just generally enjoyed being with each other without the worry of plans or housework or any other such sundry stresses. We had dinner at one of my favorite RI restaurants, Greggs. It's a small chain (4 restaurants in the state and that's it) that just does classic American homestyle cooking really well. I got my usual really big, really good eclair, it was as divine as i remember. I also manage to temporarily quench my pickle craving. Greggs bring half sours to the table instead of bread to nibble on before the meal and they are my favorite pickles ever. Saturday morning we had breakfast at the Newport Creamery and then headed home, we watched Black Adder for about 2 hours and then called up
learnedax to come relieve our boredom and were later joined by
tpau, we all played way too much MarioKart.
As usual, being a Sunday, we had a busy morning and an absolutly dead afternoon. I'm being allowed to work on my next level even though I'm not done with the one I'm on because my last two items to be signed off aren't things that happen ever day or that we can make come in and I've been stuck like this for a month. I don't get a raise until I finish but I've never been in this for money. I got to try to draw blood for the first time today, not something one gets right away but wasn't a bad first attempt. Had to hunt for one of the office cats for about 20 minutes to get his meds into him and then he just popped out of nowhere, annoying silly thing. Finally got back to school hung out with friends and will soon be going to bed all and all quite a good break.
So that's how I spent my Thanksgiving vacation.
